#HeGetsUs

A cross post from NY Senate District 54 candidate Scott Comegys

I believe we want public servants who work towards unity in our communities.

Our goal is for individuals and communities to thrive in New York State and the work of legislators at every level of government should be focused on that goal. That means in the Finger Lakes area, for instance, that the work being done by state legislators should concentrate on guaranteeing that the basic needs of people are accessible, that human rights are recognized and protected, and that opportunity exists for people to live, work, play, and feel secure in the communities that they live in.

Recognizing underserved and marginalized groups of people in our communities and ensuring that they are seen, heard and served creates understanding, trust, and unity. Disparaging them or acting to prevent their rightful inclusion in our society does exactly the opposite.

Remarks made recently by a few of our incumbent representatives regarding gender in sports and misrepresenting legislation recently passed in our state have shown that they don’t understand this concept and serve to divide people in our communities.

While I understand there will always be concerns as we continue to recognize and include people in our society, we need people to serve in the interests of facilitating that inclusion and ensuring that the goal for us all to thrive is met. This requires a change in who currently represents a few of us to people who will work to represent us all.

I am out every day working to be that representative for all of us, meeting with people from all walks of life, and bringing us together (as best I can) so that I can serve us in the New York State Senate. It is people like you that have helped me get this far and I appreciate your support.

We have a chance this year to have a stronger, more unifying voice for the Finger Lakes in our State Senate. Now is the time we need to meet with more of our neighbors and friends in the area and have them vote with us, so please volunteer some time to the cause, help me to meet more folks, and bring us all together. You can volunteer by clicking below

There is also still a need for more funding support so we can reach more people. If you have not already donated, now is a great time because donations from $5 to $250 from people in the 54th State Senate district all get matched (if you have already donated $250, please don't donate more, but maybe ask a friend or relative to pitch in), and having that means we will have the lawn signs (coming by the end of August!), advertising, mailing, and staff needed to reach voters across the district.

We can do this with your help.

Thank you,

Scott Comegys
