Successful Petition Period Closes

Thank you!

After weeks of signature gathering by committee members, nominating petitions were filed last week in Albany and Canandaigua for a slate of local and state Democratic candidates. Here are the names you’ll see on this November’s ballot:

  • NY Senate-54 Kenan Baldridge (Rose, Wayne County)

  • NY Assembly-133 Sara Spezzano (Wheatland, Monroe Co)

  • Ontario County Sheriff Steve Slavny (Victor)

During March, your dedicated committee members contacted thousands of registered Democratic Party voters in Ontario County, with a final petition push completed over the weekend of April 1-3. We delivered the extra several hundred signatures needed to place sheriff candidate Steve Slavny on the ballot beyond objection, and Senate candidate Kenan Baldridge extended his personal thanks to the OCDC for its efforts in collecting hundreds of his more than 2,500 signatures delivered to Albany. He noted that the number of signatures in District 54 was far greater than in the previous six years and he’s hopeful that’s indicative of rising enthusiasm by Democratic voters.

Several Congressional candidate petitions were also filed for the three districts representing Ontario County: In NY22 (Geneva city and town), six Democratic candidates will face off in the June 28th primary: Vanessa Fajans-Turner (Ithaca), Sam Roberts (Syracuse), Sarah Klee Hood (Dewitt), Chol Majok (Syracuse), Francis Conole (Syracuse) and Josh Riley (Ithaca). In NY25 (Canandaigua city and town, East Bloomfield, Hopewell & Victor), incumbent Representative Joe Morelle will appear on the November ballot. Finally, in NY24, The Lake District, Steve Holden (Camillus) is expected to be named as the Democratic candidate, taking on incumbent (and invisible) Representative Chris Jacobs.

Finally, eighty-two committee members passed the petitions required for reappointment to the county committee. Notably, there are new members from the towns of Canadice (Jane Iaculli) and Seneca (Leslie Bailey). The OCDC will reorganize later in the year according to state election law and the committee bylaws.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday June 28th; polls will be open 6 am - 9 pm. Early Voting starts June 18th and ends June 26th; three early polling locations will be open (Canandaigua, Geneva and Victor) for eight hours each day. Visit the Ontario County Board of Elections website for additional details on polling hours. The General Election will be held Tuesday November 8th; early voting is scheduled for October 31st - November 6th.

Thanks to all of you who made calls, signed petitions, and are dedicated to supporting and voting for Democrats. Together we can win!
